10-month-old baby contracts meningitis, suffers legs, arms amputations

A 10-month-old baby, Kia Gett, has had all four of her limbs amputated during her battle with meningitis.

An MRI scan showed that Kia would be deaf, blind and have 90 per cent brain damage.

Tens of thousands of pounds have also been raised for her treatment for what the doctors have described as “the worst case of meningitis in decades.”

A JustGiving page started to raise money for Kia and her family has now raised more than £25,000.

Kia was first rushed to hospital in September after her dad Paul, 35, went to check on her during the night and found that her body was covered in a rash, a known symptom of meningitis.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and the baby girl had a mini cardiac arrest before she was rushed to Bradford Royal Infirmary, West Yorkshire.

Her parents Paul and Vikki were then given the devastating news that she would have to have all four of her limbs amputated.

The little girl’s mum had taken her to the GP a few days before as Kia was “not herself,” but consultants have since told the family that the GP would not have been able to detect meningitis at that time.
