The wide receiver is making progress in his recovery from a broken ankle.
Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the drama that swirled around the Giants in recent weeks is that Odell Beckham Jr. hasn’t been involved.
The lightning rod wide receiver has mostly been out of sight since fracturing his ankle on Oct. 8. But Beckham had more of a presence around the Giants’ facility on Wednesday and he notably is no longer wearing a walking boot on his left foot.
Beckham was spotted working out in the weight room while his teammates were practicing and he walked through the locker room with no ill effects from the season-ending surgery he underwent two months ago.
Beckham is expected to make a full recovery from the injury, although no timetable has been announced for when he’ll return to football activities.
The Giants remain beat-up as they prepare for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys. But Beckham’s health is far more important to the franchise than any bumps and bruises players are dealing with down the stretch of this miserable season.
Here’s the Giants’ full injury report from Wednesday:
*LB Jonathan Casillas (neck/wrist): Did not participate
Casillas was put on injured reserve after missing Wednesday’s practice. The captain was sidelined for last Sunday’s 24-17 loss to the Raiders by neck and wrist injuries. He has dealt with both injuries for much of the season and the neck injury caused him to miss three games in the middle of the season. The 30-year-old is set to become a free agent, so he may have played his final game for the Giants.
Wide receiver Darius Powe was promoted from the practice squad to take Casillas’ spot on the active roster.
*CB Eli Apple (hip/back): Did not participate
Apple’s tumultuous season continued Wednesday. He missed last Sunday’s game after being a late addition to the injury report with a hip injury. A back injury was added to Apple’s list of ailments after he missed Wednesday’s practice. The 2016 first-round pick has missed three straight games and his odds of breaking that streak this week don’t look promising at this point.
*DE Jason Pierre-Paul (finger): Did not participate
Pierre-Paul didn’t participate in practice due to a finger injury. He had a wrap on his damaged right hand after Sunday’s game.
*WR Sterling Shepard (hamstring): Did not participate
The injury bug continues to bite Shepard. The second-year receiver returned to the lineup on Sunday after missing two games with migraines. He worked on the side during Wednesday’s practice due to a hamstring injury. Shepard missed two games earlier this season with an ankle injury.
*OL Chad Wheeler (concussion): Did not participate
Wheeler worked on the side during practice. The rookie right tackle left in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game after suffering a concussion.
*RB Wayne Gallman (hip): Limited participant
Gallman was limited with a hip injury. He had three carries for 11 yards and one catch for eight yards in last Sunday’s game.
*LB B.J. Goodson (ankle): Limited participant
It was encouraging to see Goodson on the field for Wednesday’s practice after he aggravated his ankle injury in Sunday’s game. Sunday was Goodson’s first appearance after missing four straight games with an ankle injury.
*DT Damon Harrison (elbow): Limited participant
Harrison was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday after sitting out of practice all last week. Harrison played in Sunday’s game with a big brace on his right elbow.
*OL Justin Pugh (back): Limited participant
Pugh continues to make progress from the back injury that has sidelined him for the past three games. Early indications are that Pugh will return to his spot at right tackle this week.
