Executive Director of the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA), has said the Covid-19 outbreak in private schools is being assessed by some inspectors from the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Dr Haggar Hilda Ampadu disclosed that an inspection team has been sent to Akosombo to assess the situation after a private school in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region recorded 40 confirmed cases of Covid-19.

This was revealed by the Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) in the region, Dr. Winfred Ofosu.

Although he refused to name the school, she indicated that most of the cases recorded were among students and staff who visited various health facilities within the constituency.

“I have an inspection team on the ground currently assessing the situation. They’ll report back to me,” she told Winston Amoah on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Friday.

According to Dr Ampadu, the GES has received reports from concerned parents, the general public, as well as the Ghana Health Service.

“We got reports again from parents, we got reports from the general public, even some reports even from the Ghana Health Service.”

Speaking about GES addressing the situation at Akosombo, Dr Ampadu revealed that after the inspection team has assessed the Covid-19 outbreak in the schools, they will then verify and then follow the due process.

“So ours is to go down to the location and verify the report and then apply our processes to ascertain what actually happened.”

“With regards to the students and staff who have tested positive for Covid-19, Dr Ampadu said that the Ghana Health Service will take over and manage the spread of the spread of the virus in schools.”

“In terms of the positive cases that have been reported, that will be a Ghana Health Service mandate. We have to ensure that they’ve taken over and they’re managing the cases and it’s been reported to the National Covid-19 Management Team.”

She said that the Covid-19 outbreak in the schools at Akosombo is being handled accordingly.

“So my inspectors are on the ground as I speak to you, and they’re going to ensure all those are done.”
