Marlaena Moore’s new single: It felt like our brief, terrible winter died this week, and this video for Moore’s crushing song Carve is the perfect capstone. In a sleeveless dress, Moore sings and dances in the near-Rockies, including doing a bare-skin snow angel.

Notes director Laura-Lynn Petrick, “I wanted to make something breathtaking and surreal for Carve. The cold, inhabitable rocky mountains were a heavenly backdrop for the song’s strong emotive qualities. Marlaena was angelic amidst it — with a true fierceness — embracing the snow, negative temperatures and brutal winds with such spirit.”

Produced by Chad VanGaalen, Pay Attention, Be Amazed! was easily one of last year’s best albums, and it’s inspiring to see new action spinning off it.

Celebrate Black Joy!: Heather Campbell — former co-chair of Alberta’s Anti-Racism Advisory Council — and MLA David Shepherd are hosting an online celebration of Black History Month with a program that ends with a province-wide virtual dance led by educators and activists La Connexional. Other artists on the roster are Ntwali and Dingolay, as well as a couple poets being confirmed.

Saint-Saëns and the ESO: The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra Virtual Stage debuts another performance, Camille Saint-Saëns’ Fantaisie for Violin & Harp, Op. 124, performed by ESO Principal Harp Nora Bumanis and ESO violinist Ewald Cheung.

Says the string player, “The Saint-Saëns is a dreamy, imaginative piece that features quite an unusual set of instruments with the violin and harp. It can be separated into five distinct sections, each section having its own unique characteristic.” The ESO VS is releasing two new videos a month as part of their subscription service to help support its musicians and programming till such a time as we can head back to the Winspear together.
