Edmontonians will be reaching for their shovels and brushing off their cars Tuesday morning as they wake up to the aftermath of the season’s first snowfall.
Between 10 and 20 centimetres of snow is expected to hit the streets of Edmonton and surrounding areas with strong gusts of wind reaching up to 70 km/h developing in areas of eastern Alberta, according to Environment Canada. Visibility may be reduced due to blowing snow.
“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions,” Environment Canada said in the weather warning. “Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow.”
Cheryl Sheppard, spokeswoman for EPS, said 71 injury collisions, 14 hit-and-run collisions and three injury collisions were reported to police between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
The snowfall may cause travel delays on Tuesday morning as well.
“The conditions may lead to school bus delays for Edmonton Catholic School Division students as they return to class tomorrow, following the fall break,” the ECSD said on Twitter Monday evening. “Please be patient while waiting for your bus.”
