Man back in police custody after alleged escape from hospital in cuffs
A 29-year-old man who allegedly escaped police custody while handcuffed in a South Australian hospital has been found.
Police will allege Simon Newchurch was under guard at Murray Bridge Hospital, east of Adelaide, when he escaped just before 6.30pm yesterday.
"I'm very disappointed that this prisoner risked other patients and staff by breaching custody in the hospital," SA Health Minister Stephen Wade said.
Mr Newchurch allegedly evaded the police helicopter, the dog squad and officers on the ground for 16 hours.
Police arrested him shortly after 11am (11.30am AEDT) today.
He was charged with escape from custody and will spend tonight behind bars. He is expected to front court tomorrow.
South Australia police will not reveal how many officers were with Mr Newchurch when he vanished.
They have also arrested a 43-year-old Murray Bridge man, who has been charged with helping the fugitive.
