A man has died and a woman rescued after a boat overturned in rapids on the Yarra River in Melbourne.
The pair got in trouble on the water while canoeing at Dights Falls in Abbotsford about 1.30am today, with Water Police, officers from search and rescue, and airwing responding to calls for help.
The 46-year-old woman was in the water when emergency services arrived and was carried to safety.
The man’s body was retrieved from the water.
He has not yet been formally identified.
The woman was assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital for observation.
Police are investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
