One artiste who can boast of an astonishing 2021 music career is Nigerian singer Tems, as she adds a Grammy nod feather to her cap.
It was almost a sign written in the stars as we watched Tems growth soar throughout the year as the song ‘Essence’ broke newer records globally. Peaking at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100, Essence Remix, featuring Justin Bieber, has spent 20 weeks on the chart, has over 200 million global streams, and sold over 2 million copies worldwide.
Tem’s journey was nothing short of glorious as she featured on “Fountains,” a track off Drake’s sixth studio album, Certified Lover Boy.
Will this be Tems first Grammy win? Is it possible to achieve such a feat in three years? Tems released her second EP titled If Orange Was a Place on September 15th 2021, and “Crazy Tings” off the EP already hit the 3 million views mark on YouTube.
Tems adds this nomination to her long line of successes in 2021, including a nomination for 2021 BET Awards Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act, her win of Best Song of the Year and Best Collaboration for “Essence” at the 2021 AFRIMMA awards and her successful debut at the 2021 NET Honours taking home the award for Most Played Song – Alternative for her hit single “Damages”.
