Things are looking dicey beyond Thursday’s high of 9 C. In the afternoon, there will be a drop to -13 C. The night will plunge us down to the -26 C range, say forecasters, with a ferocious wind chill of -28 C. Risk of frostbite is an understatement. Properly cover up, bundle tightly, if you must be out. Balaclava’s are fashionable.

But at least we are on course for lows of ‘only’ -30 C come Boxing Day and Tuesday next week. Take anything above -25 C as a gift, knowing the -20 C-range stuff hangs around until… March?

Today’s forecast

Today: Periods of snow, with fog patches dissipating in the morning. Wind becoming northwest 20 km/h this afternoon. High -9 C, falling to -13 C in the afternoon. Wind chill -15 C this morning and -20C in the afternoon.

Tonight: Clearing in the evening with wind up to 15 km/h. Low -26 C and a wind chill of -20 C this evening and a windchill of -28 C overnight. Risk of frostbite.

Tomorrow: Clear, becoming a mix of sun and cloud in the morning. Wind up to 15 km/h. High -20 C. Wind chill near -31 C. Risk of frostbite. Cloudy periods and a low of -23 C at night.
