Melbourne residents are bracing for possible storms this afternoon, with potential hail and heavy falls expected.
A wild summer storm lashed the city yesterday, sending down large hailstones and flooding roads.
Thousands of properties were left without power last night, while at least two flights were diverted from Melbourne Airport.
Meanwhile, a Queensland flood emergency has taken a deadly turn, claiming the life of a man in the Toowoomba region.
The 73-year-old was swept away near Oakey while driving to drive across a flooded causeway in his ute.
While the heavy rains have now eased, the threat is far from over with several floodwaters still in place this morning.
That includes areas downsteam of the inundated Inglewood, with major flooding expected at Texas near the New South Wales border.
New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory
A partly cloudy is expected in Sydney, with a slight chance of a shower and temperatures are expected to reach a top of 26C.
There is a medium chance of showers in Canberra, with a top of 28C predicted.
Across New South Wales, showers and storms are expected across the east, west and southern inland.
The rest of the ACT can expect a partly cloudy day, with a medium chance of showers.
Victoria
Melbourne residents will wake up to a humid and sunny morning, with a top of 31C.
There is a high chance of showers, most likely during this afternoon and evening.
There is also the potential for a thunderstorm during this afternoon and evening, with possible hail and heavy falls.
Across the state, a low-pressure trough over western Victoria will move slowly east during Thursday as a high-pressure system over the Bight extends a ridge towards Tasmania.
Queensland
A weak ridge extends over much of Queensland.
There is a slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms in eastern and northern districts, increasing to a medium to high chance in the far north.
Mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere.
Brisbane residents can expect a partly cloudy day and a top of 29C, with a medium chance of showers in the afternoon and late evening.
Northern Territory
In the Northern Territory, there is a slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms over the northern Top End.
Conditions are expected to be clear elsewhere.
Light to moderate west to northwesterly winds are predicted across the Daly District, tending northeast to southeasterly elsewhere.
There is a medium chance of showers for Darwin, becoming less likely in the evening.
Tasmania
In Tasmania, conditions will be humid, with morning fog.
Showers are expected to develop across western, central and southeastern districts in the late morning and extend to remaining districts during the afternoon and evening.
Isolated thunderstorms are possible and more likely in the southeast.
Hobart is in for a humid and cloudy day, with a top of 26C.
Western Australia
In Western Australia, light showers are expected near the south coast.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible over the far northwestern Kimberley.
Perth residents can expect a clear day and a top of 27C.
South Australia
In South Australia, there is slight chance of a shower and possible thunderstorm developing about the Flinders, north of the Mid North and Riverland districts, and the south of the Pastorals.
There is a slight chance of showers near the far western coasts.
Very hot conditions are expected in the far north with moderate northeast to northerly winds.
Further south, mild near the coast grading to warm to hot inland with moderate to fresh southwest to southeasterly winds.
Adelaide residents are in for a partly cloudy day, with a top of 24C.
