And depending on where you live in Canada, you could be getting more than just the usual federal amount — up to $575.50 per quarter, in fact.

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) sends out this tax-free credit every three months to help lower- and modest-income Canadians offset sales taxes. This month also marks the start of a new benefit year, bringing updated payment amounts and fresh provincial top-ups in some regions.

While all eligible Canadians receive the standard federal credit, four Atlantic provinces — Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island — are offering additional cash to residents to help with rising costs.

Quebec, however, is not. The province delivers its own cost-of-living relief through separate programs and does not attach anything extra to the federal GST/HST credit.

But while Quebec doesn't offer a GST/HST top-up, families should keep an eye out for the Provincial Family Allowance, with its next payment ($124) scheduled for July 10. This benefit provides income-tested support to eligible Quebec families.

As reported earlier by MTL Blog, this year's updated federal amounts are:

$133.25 for single adults

$174.50 for couples

$46 per child under 19

The credit is income-tested and issued automatically by direct deposit or cheque — no need to apply, just file your taxes.

As for provincial bonuses, they’ll be rolled into your regular GST/HST payment if you're eligible. But if you live in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, B.C. or the territories, you'll be getting the federal portion only.

You can check your eligibility or confirm your payment by logging into CRA My Account.

For more info on this month's payment, you can read our full July GST/HST explainer here.

Love this?
