A woman is dead after a vehicle was swept away in Brisbane’s north, the second such tragic incident in two nights.

Emergency services were called to roads either side of Little Cabbage Patch Tree Creek in Aspley about 8pm (9pm AEDT) on Thursday to reports of a vehicle in floodwaters.

A police spokeswoman said the driver, a 52-year-old Geebung man, was found a short time later.

Parts of Queensland have been hit with flooding, with several warnings in place.

Paramedics treated him at the scene and took him to Brisbane’s Prince Charles Hospital in a stable condition.

Police said the vehicle was recovered about 11.15pm (12.15am Friday AEDT) with the dead 44-year-old Geebung woman inside.

About 15 minutes before the body was found, emergency crews were called to what could have been a similar situation north of Brisbane.

A police spokeswoman said as many as three cars were trapped in floodwaters near Old Gympie and Callaghan roads at Narangba.

She said police, firefighters and paramedics attended the scene but only police remained directing traffic early Friday morning.

The incidents came amid extensive localised flooding throughout Brisbane’s north and a little more than 24 hours after a 75-year-old woman died when her car was washed away in the city’s west.

Inspector Daniel Bragg urged drivers to remember: “If it’s flooded forget it.”

“Can I encourage drivers to stop and not go anywhere near flooded waters,” he said.
