A former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has stated that the Black Stars has not lost its place in football despite its abysmal performance in recent tournaments.
Speaking on the Super Morning Show, on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, he stated that the only challenge with the team is the current crop of players.
“We are still a force to reckon with [in football]. What we shouldn’t forget is that the current group is not made up of people like Stephen Appiah, Asamoah Gyan, and the others. The group is in the hands of a group of people who know exactly what it means when it comes to national cause. That group didn’t have the passion, they didn’t have the energy, they are overaged, and had no hunger for success. That’s what happened,” he said.
He was speaking on the back of Black Stars’ defeat in the game against Comoros. Ghana’s national team on Tuesday, lost to Comoros by 3-2.
Many fans have been disappointed with some venting their anger on the national coach, Milovan Rajevac, for poor work done in managing the team.
They have called for him to either resign or be dismissed by the Ghana Football Association. Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe has joined such calls.
He believes that if the current team is dissolved and another installed, with the coach dismissed and another coach contracted, things could get better.
“I would have sacked the coach immediately if I was the President of the GFA. I don’t believe Milovan was purposely engaged for the World Cup. Milo’s performance now should tell you the man has lost his bearings, and he can’t handle the Black Stars the way we want,” he said.
“We need a coach, the new coach should be given a free hand to make his own selections, that is very important,” he added.
