France on Thursday expanded the list of compelling reasons to travel to and from the U.K., effective as of January 6, the French consulate in London announced.
People are now allowed to travel between France and the U.K. for work-related reasons requiring an on-site presence, which cannot be postponed. Travelers must provide proof from their employer.
EU-based Brits can also now transit more easily through France to reach their EU main residence. France had already relaxed its initial rules on that for the holiday period following outcry from British nationals barred from traveling home via the Eurotunnel.
Most travel restrictions instated on December 18 in response to the Omicron spread still apply, including a ban on tourism travel for non-EU citizens and a negative COVID-19 pre-departure test result for eligible travelers.
France’s relaxation of travel restrictions follows the U.K.’s lifting Wednesday of pre-departure COVID-19 tests and of self-isolation on arrival.
