Colombo, Jan 18 (DailyMirror) – The Ceylon Electricity Board’s (CEB) diesel and furnace oil stocks will be sufficient only until 5.00 p.m. this evening for electricity generation, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation’s (CPC) Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya wing (JSS) Secretary Ananda Palitha said.
He told the Daily Mirror that, according to the statement made by Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila yesterday, the whole country should be in the dark by tomorrow.
“More than 2,000 metric tons of furnace oil and diesel fuel will be required for tomorrow’s electricity generation. If we are unable to provide sufficient stock, more factories and companies will have to stop their operations from tomorrow, ” he said.
We have pointed out earlier that the country is reaching this difficulty, but the Minister blamed us, saying that we made a statement without knowing anything. Unfortunately, the minister also had to make the statement yesterday, he said.
Meanwhile, there are no powercuts scheduled to take place this evening, but the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is trying to utilize the remaining stock of diesel, CEB Additional General Manager and media spokesman Andrew Navamani said.
He told the Daily Mirror that the diesel stock is remaining only until 5.00p.m but the CEB was trying to pass the peak hours as much as possible.
The Sapugaskanda thermal power station has already stopped and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has agreed to provide the sufficient furnace oil stocks.
