Whatever bricks critics or his peers in the industry may have thrown at him for being a ‘rich kid’ who dared to break into an industry believed to be for those with ‘grass to grace’ status, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has used them to positively reinvent himself, releasing even more hits and solidifying his superstar status since he broke into the music scene a decade ago.

Ten years after his break out single announced his entry into the music scene. It forced the world to pay attention; Davido’s story, his journey, and how he has been able to use criticisms to reinvent himself is inspiring other super-rich kids to follow their passion, damning the backlashes and what critics have to say.

“Nobody gave anything to David, that one I can tell you for free,” Obi Asika, CEO of Storm 360, said in ‘We Rise: The Davido Story‘, a new documentary by Netng that premiered on January 15, 2022. “People always assume that because he comes from a background where there’s money in the family, but that was a disadvantage.”

Daughters of billionaire oil magnate Femi Otedola – Florence (DJ Cuppy) and Tolani are examples of super-rich kids whose lives follow Davido’s trajectory.

DJ Cuppy, a singer and disk jockey, who has been subjected to all forms of criticisms like David, for every single she has released, her voice and fashion, believes most Nigerians do not like her because she’s a rich kid.

“80% of Nigerian people don’t like me. Good thing we have a large population,” Cuppy tweeted in August 2019.

Like Davido, she has been carrying on with her love for music and ignoring critics. And the other part of Davido’s life Cuppy has taken to is his philanthropy that has continued to earn Davido praise.

Unlike Davido, who contended with an objection to his career from his father, the Otedola daughters appear to have the full backing of their father; after all, David Adeleke has shown that it is possible to be a rich kid and still make music. That’s enough confirmation that their father needs to support his daughters’ decision to become an artiste.

Davido‘s resolve as a hardworking rich kid and go-getter is inspirational, and he would continue to inspire more rich kids to follow his path.
