As Russia tightens its grip on Kyiv, Ukrainians take stock — and go to ground

As dawn broke on Friday, it was time to survey the damage from missiles launched on the city overnight.

AS DAWN BROKE over Ukraine on Friday, and Russia’s assault on the country continued at full force, people in Kyiv — the ones who weren’t stuck on highways leading away from the city, or dodging the Russian missiles raining down — took stock of the damage caused overnight. Here’s a glimpse at what you may have missed late Thursday, overnight and into Friday morning.
