Life can be so complicated and stressful sometimes, but a little laughter always goes a long way in reducing some of that stress. That is why we are shining the light on 10 of the hilarious comedy TV series that 2021 gave us.

  1. Blackish:

Kenya Barris announced that the final season of Black-ish heralded by the Johnsons will air this year. It will be the end of an era in black American pop culture. Even though they say ratings on the show are down, it was still one of the hilarious shows on TV last year. The family led by Dre Johnson had us rooting for them and laughing out loud as we did so. We can’t wait to see how they’ll top season 7 with the series finale this year.

  1. Insecure:

Issa Rae and Yvonne Orji took on the last season of Insecure like they had a mission. The goal? Make their fans laugh so hard they forget that it’s the final season, and they succeeded. The cast and crew of the show gave fans a brilliant performance in the last season and an even more fun ten episodes.

  1. Ghana Jollof:

Showmax debuted its first-ever original Naija comedy series, and they chose a worthy man to do it with. Choosing to work with Basketmouth, who has created two other hilarious TV shows, was an inspired idea, and he didn’t disappoint. The show saw a combination of Ghanaian and Nigerian comedians and actors take viewers through two Western African cultures (Ghana and Nigeria) in the most humorous way possible.

  1. Jenifa’s Diary:

Funke Akindele created a gem with Jenifa’s Diary, and she’s not putting an end to it anytime soon. For one more year since it was first created in 2015, Jenifa and her antics had the audience howling in laughter.

  1. The Goldbergs:

Yet another comedy around a dysfunctional family, The Goldbergs is a goldmine of laughter-induced happiness. Although set in the 1980s with the most ridiculous mix of family members, the show has continued to bring smiles to viewers’ faces for nine seasons. And it didn’t fail to do so last year. But this is expected when you have an overprotective, boundaries-lacking mum, a hot-tempered dad, barely well-behaved kids, and a granddad who is always responsible for wild antics in one family.

  1. My Flatmates:

Whoever thought it would be great to put Basketmouth, Buchi, Yaw and Okey Bakassi in the same series needs a national medal! If you are looking to laugh away any worry you have, this is the show to do it on. In 2021, they kept fans laughing as hard as they’ve been doing since 2017, and we love them for it. Interestingly, you can catch up on all five seasons of the TV series on Showmax for less than N1,200.

  1. The Sex Lives Of College Girls:

This HBO series follows the lives of four 18-year-old freshmen roommates at the fictional Essex College in Vermont, covering their sexually active lifestyle as they deal with college’s different struggles and hardships. The show created by Mindy Kaling only debuted in November 2021. Still, it was so good that the network renewed it for a second season in December. The series was a great way to end the year laughing.

  1. The Johnsons:

If every Nigerian came from a family like The Johnsons, people would be happier because they’d have too much laughter in their lives. One of the most boisterous TV families to grace Nigerian screens, they left viewers in stitches throughout 2021. But, you can’t expect any less with a cast filled with funny people like Ada Imeh, Chinedu Ikedieze, Charles Inojie, Spiff Ajibola and more. Just like My Flatmates, you can catch all ten seasons of the humorous family on Showmax.

  1. My Siblings and I:

This is another series created by Funke Akindele, and it’s every bit as hilarious. The antics each Aderugba child displays is enough to make up a comedy show in itself. But when you put all seven children and their naughty niece and nephew on one film, expect nothing less than comedy gold. After a fantastic third season last year, the family is back again and ready to rule 2022 like they did 2021. And you can have a binge-fest watching all episodes since it premiered in 2018 on Showmax.

  1. Ghosts:

This is a dark comedy about a couple who inherit a new mansion inhabited by Ghosts. They are not your typical Nigerian versions of ghosts. Instead, these members of the afterlife will most likely make you pee your pants from laughing rather than fright.
