The Oilers gave up a fourth round pick for the player.
Writer Charlie O’Connor of the Athletic in Philadelphia had this to say: :I figured Brassard would be the type of Flyers who got moved right at the deadline, wrote that in my column this morning. He was a logical cheap fallback, last-minute option for teams. No one was prioritizing him, but he still has value & someone was gonna want him.”
And Sam Carchidi of Philadelphia Hockey Now said: “Brassard is an underrated player. Good pick up by Edmonton Oilers.”
And CapFriendly reports: “Derick Brassard is on a one year $825k contract. He is a pending UFA who has 16 points in 31 games played this season.”
My take
1. Could be a useful playoff performer. We shall see. I was liking Brad Malone just fine in a fourth line centre role, but Brassard has a much stronger NHL pedigree.
