Nigerian Idol: Voting On As 12 Contestants Battle for Survival After Live Show

D’banj opened the live floor with a song that consisted of his catchphrases: “Your face show, your shoe shine, your teeth white”. The top 12 contestants too joined him on stage briefly to dance before the competition began proper.

The head-to-head battle for survival required each of the contestants to sing a song live after which they would solicit the support and vote of their fans to remain in the competition.

Abigail was the first on stage to perform Rain on Me by Lady Gaga featuring Ariana Grande. Obi Asika described it as special while Simi stood up when the performance ended and gave her a round of applause.

David Operah was next wowing the judges and the audience with his beautiful voice. Obi Asika confirmed that he has truly stepped up.

Faith walked to the stage next and sang Drivers License by Olivia Rodrigo  Her performance was described as exceptional. A big Simi fan, the contestant made her idol proud. Simi said she was impressed with her performance while Asika said she delivered well.

Jordan the basketballer chose Adele’s hit song, Rolling in the Deep for his live performance. He said he selected it because it suited his voice and he truly delivered, receiving commendations from the judges. D’banj noted that he has improved from the first performance and urged him to continue to give his best.

Zadok sang Perfect by Ed Sheeran and the audience rose to their feet after his performance. Simi said he killed the song. D’banj commended his performance, particularly his entertainment delivery. 

The next contestant on stage was Progress who sang Heartbreak Anniversary by Giveon. D’banj noted that he has really improved and Simi commended how well he controlled his voice.

Joel took to the stage next to perform Adele’s Easy on Me. Obi Asika said he owned the stage and said he liked what he did with the song. Simi noted that he sounded nervous but still maintained his powerful voice.

Banty sang Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran and was commended by the judges for a superstar performance. The judges noted her rise from the audition to make it to the top 12. 

Gerald went for Keep the Door Open by Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak and did a very good job according to the judges. The audience at the live show was also entertained as they rose to clap for him.

Precious took to the stage next to sing Felony. Unlike her solo performance where she forgot her lines, she did a brilliant job at the live performance and showed why she deserved to be in the top 12. D’banj said he enjoyed her swag and commended her for improved performance.

Itohan, the youngest contestant in the show, performed Shallow by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Obi Asika and D’banj rose to their feet at the end of her performance. Asika said it was a privilege to watch her performance.

Debby was the last contestant to perform as she sang Monalisa by Lojay and Starz. She impressed the judges who noted her growth in the competition. D’banj recalled that she was ill at some point but has truly come off good.

Voting opened immediately after the live performances and will end on Wednesday, March 23.
