EDITOR’S NOTE: This story has been corrected to reflect the victim was an adult, not a child. A police dispatcher initially said the victim was a child, but the police chief later said the victim was an adult.
CHICAGO (CBS) — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a freight train Thursday morning in West Chicago.
A freight train hit the victim shortly after 8:20 a.m. at the Washington Street crossing in West Chicago. Police said the victim, who was an adult, has yet to be identified.
Police said Washington Street was closed between Clara and Wood streets after the accident, but the streets reopened around 11 a.m.
All Metra Union Pacific-West line trains, as well as Union Pacific and Canadian national freight trains, also were stopped after the accident. Inbound and outbound UP-West line trains have since resumed service, but extensive delays are expected, and riders should check for service alerts on the Metra website.
This is a developing story…
