Ghanaian musician Paapa Versa, as expected, brings us a new sound in 2022.
The singer-songwriter is gearing up to release a genre-blending album, fronted by new afro-soul single ‘Call You Mine’.
On the track, the artist and producer reflects on his insecurities as a man and an artist.
“The song is an ode to unconditional, grounding love and being able to acknowledge the insecurities of life, while celebrating those who hold you down and call you their own regardless of those insecurities”, he says.
Paapa Versa has always recorded, produced and released his own EPs and albums, shifting from a Christian hip-hop influence on his debut album ‘Solar’ (2011) to introspective soulful themes on his sophomore album ‘Songs for Kukua’ (2013) which ushered a generation of alternative Ghanaian music.
“Technical Difficulties” EP trilogy (2017-2020), his last project, served as quiet therapy of sorts for Paapa Versa.
The multi-instrumentalist focused on vulnerable songwriting about frustration, depression, togetherness and more, offering empathy to troubled listeners over refined and minimal instrumentation.
The captivating single Call You Mine by Paapa Versa is out May 6th.
