Officers responded to a weapons complaint at about 11 a.m. in the area of 82 Street and 36 Avenue, where someone had reportedly been shot, according to an email statement issued by Edmonton Police Service spokesperson Carolin Maran.
Emergency medical services responded to the scene and transported a woman in her 20s with non-life-threatening injuries to hospital, Maran said, and police have received no other report of injuries.
A nearby school was placed on lockdown but has since reopened, Maran added, although the injured woman has no ties to the school.
While police believe there are no immediate or further public safety concerns, they also believe this was a targeted incident and are investigating the case.
