A Perth teenager may never walk again after breaking his neck in a freak bike accident.

Sixteen-year-old Cody Mackie was doing a small bike stunt – one he had done hundreds of times before – when he landed badly on a jump.

The teenager broke his neck and was left with no feeling in his body.

"We're talking about a small jump, just a freak accident. Helmet on, all the safety equipment. Just one freak landing," family friend Kade Keenan said.

Cody was flown to the Royal Perth Hospital where he was told it was unlikely he would ever walk again.

Doctors said there was only a one per cent chance he would be able to operate a wheelchair.

"Everyone's devastated because Cody's such a good kid. Everyone loves him," Cody's father, Rob Mackie, said.

He has also had difficulty speaking due to the accident.

He had surgery to help him talk again, but doctors say it could be months before there is progress.

There has been an outpouring of support for the teenager with strangers joining family and friends to help pay for Cody's ongoing recovery.

"You never think it's going to be you, and you know what, it's us this time. So we need all the help we can get," Ms Keenan said.
