What is a Nigerian ‘Owambe’ without glamorous and glitzy outfits? And a Nigerian party scene in movies is no different.
We’ve seen the display of glitz and glamour in several movies from ‘The Wedding Party’ to ‘Chief Daddy’, but ‘Blood Sisters’, Mo Abudu’s latest hit on Netflix, took that to a new level in every aspect, from the plot to the casting and the costume design.
The costume design by Yolanda Okereke-Fubara was one of the major highlights of the new series, with every cast embodying their character in demeanour and style.
Yolanda Okereke-Fubara is a stylist and costume designer. She is the founder of The Rani Company, a costume designing company that has worked with blockbusting movies like Merry Men 2, Who’s The Boss and more. The designer is also a wardrobe curator.
Here are some details of the outfits worn at the engagement party scene by the Ademola’s and the bride, Sarah.
Kate Henshaw – Madam Uduak
Kate Henshaw was the ice, posh queen with a strong aura and a cold demeanour. She was basically the villain in the story, and her outfits reflected that.
For her son, Kola Ademola’s wedding, she wore an aso-oke by Bisbod aso-oke, the aso-oke was mustard yellow in colour and was made into a wrap dress by Sevon Dejana in just 36 hours. The outfit was accessorized with gold earrings from Fabjewels, and a silver purse with gold handles from Kiki Oyewale.
Kehinde Balogun – Olayinka
Olayinka’s character is a bold yet sexy woman, and they indeed delivered. The fabric for her dress for the wedding was from Remi Couture, and Xtrabrideslagos made the dress. She accessorized with a neckpiece from Hope By Kiki Okewale.
She paired the outfit with a gold purse and shoe and aso-oke from Bisbod aso-oke.
Deyemi Okanlawon – Kola Ademola
Kola had a strong personality in the movie, coupled with the fact that he was wealthy and powerful in every word. For his wedding, he wore an aso-oke Agbada outfit by Hrh Luxury.
The Agbada was embellished with light purple threads, and he accessorized with royal beads. The choice of colour and outfit screams royalty.
Gabriel Afolayan – Femi Ademola
Unlike Kola’s personality, Femi is on the shy and weak side; this is reflected in his outfit. As he was in a mellow cream coloured Agbada, subtly embellished with cream around the collar region and traditional beads.
Genoveva Umeh – Timeyin Ademola
Timeyin Ademola, a role played by Genoveva Umeh, was the ticking bomb, the crazy drug addict sister who is gangster yet sexy. Timeyin was in a short red dress with a long train for the wedding. She paired the dress with a black rope high heel.
Ini Dima-Okojie – Sarah Duru
Sarah looked gorgeous like the bride she was in a faux wrapper set from Bibi Lawrence. Her outfit was accessorized with royal beads and silver accessories. The off shoulder dress was embroidered with silver patterns.
Toke Makinwa – Abasiama
Toke Makinwa played the role of the ex-girlfriend that is hell-bent on getting married to Kola. Abasiama was in a short yellow dress accessorized with butterflies and fringes; the aim was solely to look sexy enough for Kola to change his mind. She paired this look with gold Sophia Webster Butterfly Shoes and jewellery from Fabjewels.
Daniel Etim-Effiong – Akin
Akin is the best man of the day, the calm man at the wedding, supporting his best friend and ensuring everything goes well. He wore a teal Agbada by Hrhluxury and paired it with simple traditional red beads.
