On Friday, July 1, 2022, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah disclosed that President Akufo-Addo has instructed the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, to engage the International Monetary Fund (IMF), for economic assistance.

Subsequently, this triggered mixed reactions from the populace.

In this regard, some hailed the development, while others clamored against it; arguing that Ghana’s return to the IMF flies in the face of government’s ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ agenda.

Critics have so far stated that the decision to return to the IMF is an indication of government’s inability to manage the economy, despite the President’s lofty promises ahead of the 2016 elections.

While some have been quick to tout the opposition NDC as better managers, a section of the populace say they will still keep faith with the NPP despite the current economic woes.

For them, the NDC remains a ‘scary alternative’, and therefore they will vote for the NPP, if elections were held today.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing poll on JoyNews’ Facebook page, some citizens have stressed that both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are of the same stock, and therefore a third political force is needed to lead the country.

What is your take?
