Adding to her ever-growing list of prestigious awards, renowned Nigerian actress Funke Akindele has won NET Honours 2022 Most Popular Actress, a month after winning African Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) Best Actress in a Comedy for her role in the movie Omo Ghetto: The Sega.

Funke Akindele beat Nollywood superstar Nancy Isime, Iyabo Ojo, Busola Ayeola, and Taiwo Ajayi-Lycett to win the award for the third time in a row.

Funke Akindele started her acting career in 1998 when she starred in the sitcom I Need To Know. However, her fame came 10 years later for her role in the 2008 comedy-drama Jenifa. In 2015, as a spinoff of the movie Jenifa, Funke launched the sitcom comedy-drama Jenifa’s Diary, where she played the lead role as a village girl who desperately wants to get out of her ratchet way of life and leaves her village and goes to the city of Lagos to get a proper education.
