It is estimated that one million Albertans (25 per cent) do not have access to a dedicated primary care provider. This is considerably worse than the national average of 15 per cent. Without an accessible primary care provider (physician or nurse practitioner), Albertans are forced to seek health-care services at a premium cost by utilizing emergency departments.
