Woman admits to setting fatal Point Cook townhouse fire, killing young family

A sex worker has admitted to setting a Point Cook townhouse alight in 2020, which sparked a ferocious blaze that killed a young family, including their new baby.

Jenny Hayes pleaded guilty to three counts of arson causing the death on Wednesday in the Supreme Court.

Abbey Forrest, 19, Inderpal Sohal, 28, and their three-week-old daughter Ivy died inside the home after a fire ripped through the Totem Way property about 3.40am on December 2, 2020.

At the time it was alleged, Hayes who is a sex worker, was at the house to provide services to a man who was staying with the young family.

But an argument broke out and the housemate left..and Hayes set their mattress on fire.

Hayes son has previously told 9News his mother didn’t know the couple and their baby were asleep inside the home.

She was initially facing six charges including three counts of murder but instead took a plea deal.

The maximum penalty for arson causing death is 25 years behind bars.

Hayes will return to court for a pre-sentencing hearing on November 7.
