After a boxing team member failed a doping test on day two of the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the Black Bombers look set to continue their pursuit of a medal after Abdul Wahib Omar qualified for the quarterfinal.
However, the hockey team still struggles at the games after heavy drubbing suffered on the fourth day.
Here’s a wrap of Ghana’s performance from Day 4.
Wahib Omar gave one of the best boxing performances at the Games, with a flawless win against Elia Robobuli from Fiji in the Light welterweight. The result sees him advance to the quarterfinal stage in his event.
India maul Ghana in the men’s hockey event, winning 11-0. It was so easy for the Asian giants that they made wholesale changes to their team, including the goalie.
In their first game, the Black Sticks lost 0-6 to England.
In the women’s contest, England destroyed Ghana by a 12-0 score, starting their pursuit of a medal in fine fashion. Ghana are now currently bottom of the pool, having conceded 17 times in 2 games.
Black Bombers captain, Abubakar Quartey, lost 2-3 to Adeyinka Benson of Nigeria in their round of 16 middleweight contest. Quartey reached this stage via a bye in the first round.
The Games continue until August 8.
