The Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps, has shared an article on the government’s hopes to rewind back to 1996, when drivers didn’t need to take an extra test to drive 7.5 ton vehicles.
At least it’s not like they’re scrapping radioactivity rules for food or anything.
The move is intended to address the shortage of lorry drivers, which has added to supply chain woes, but not everyone was convinced it would be safe.

Thank goodness for that. I had felt enslaved by the evil EU keeping me from my birthright of being permitted to put countless lives at risk by driving a massive lorry without a license. https://t.co/OgmTBN9suF

I am an adequate driver, and would be utterly terrified at being put in charge of a lorry. Any driver who is not trained to drive lorries and thinks otherwise should be immediately banned from driving anything at all. https://t.co/0FMpZXsBsA

As someone who lives in a village where lorry drivers regularly smash down a wall at one junction, that’s a no from me Mr Shapps. https://t.co/Dt01El3DEG

Let's celebrate Brexit for the bonuses it brings. We may have lost freedom of movement, travel is much harder, and it's doing more damage to our economy than Covid, but at least we can have fun driving lorries without a proper qualification. Dream come true for me! https://t.co/BEm6jTTUXH

Everyone can see precisely how this will go, everyone can see the giant 7.5-ton risk, except the clueless ballsack whose job it is to see the risk. https://t.co/eeNJ0fVXIb

Let’s abolish brakes too, as they only slow these lorries down. https://t.co/LtWKHrNRgK

Let’s not give them ideas.
