Body found in Sydney lake after man flees crash scene

The body of a man who is believed to have fled after being hit by a car has been found in Sydney's Lake Parramatta.

The man was hit by a car on James Ruse Drive in North Parramatta about 9.40pm last night, NSW Police said in a statement.

Police officers were told the man was seen running across the road when he was hit by a sedan.

The driver of the sedan stopped to help, before the injured man ran from the scene on foot.

While officers were responding to the crash, police received reports of a person in distress in the water at Lake Parramatta.

A search was launched at the lake by Parramatta police officers with assistance from PolAir, the Dog Unit and NSW SES before being suspended overnight.

The search resumed today with the help of police divers and a man's body was found at 12.30pm.

The body is yet to be formally identified, but it is believed to be that of the missing man, police said.

The incident in Parramatta comes as police divers also found the body of a man in Darling Harbour this afternoon.

A man's body was found by police divers in Darling Harbour near King St Wharf.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command and the Marine Area Command had been searching the area near King Street Wharf after receiving reports a man was seen in the water overnight.

The death of the man was not believed to be suspicious, but a report will be prepared for the coroner, NSW Police said in a statement.
