LAKE FOREST, Ill. (CBS) — The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force continues their investigation after a man was found dead in the Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve Saturday morning.
Authorities said around 5:10 a.m., Highland Park police were dispatched to the 0-100 block of Cliff Road for a report of an unconscious person on the Lake Michigan shoreline. Upon arrival, police discovered the man who was pronounced dead.
It was determined the location of the incident was Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve, located at 117 Sheridan Road, in unincorporated Lake Forest.
Preliminary investigation shows that a 45-year-old man, who lives in the area, went outside to speak with individuals who were being loud on the lakeshore around 1 a.m. After making contact with the individuals, a violent confrontation ensued – resulting in his death.
The two other men involved in the confrontation, 20 and 18, both suffered injuries in the confrontation. Both men were hospitalized for their injuries and are speaking with investigators, according to police.
Police say there is no threat to the community but advise individuals to avoid the Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve as investigations continue.
Lake County Forest Preserve Police requested the assistance of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force due to injuries located on the man’s body.
