In the July 14, 2022, Edmonton Journal, Keith Gerein had a commentary regarding “Painful budget deliberations.” He noted that the 2022 budget deliberations will set the financial blueprint for the next four years. He referenced a city report that states a “3.4-per-cent tax increase to maintain existing service, three per cent to manage debt costs and operations of new projects coming on line, two per cent for lost transit and photo radar revenue, adding up to an 8.5-per-cent hike next year, and up to six per cent in each of the following three years.” This does not include programs or projects that various council members want to advance.
