American rapper, Rakim Hasheem Allen also known as PnB Rock, was shot dead as he was being robbed at a restaurant in South Los Angeles on Monday, September 12, 2022.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the shooting happened at 1:15 pm (9:15 pm WAT) at Roscoe’s House of Chicken’ N Waffles in South Los Angeles as the rapper was “being robbed of his jewelry” while he was with his girlfriend.

He was pronounced dead at a hospital at 1:59 pm.

“The victim was sitting at a table eating with a female witness when he was approached by the suspect,” Los Angeles Police Capt. Kelly Muniz says in a video clip. “The suspect then brandished a firearm and demanded his property… The suspect then fired multiple rounds and then appears to remove some property, to what extent we don’t know at this time.”

His death comes three years after Nipsey Hussle was shot dead outside his store in South Los Angeles, which is about 40 minutes’ drive away from Roscoe’s where PnB was attacked on Monday.

Before the attack, PnB Rock’s girlfriend Stephanie Sibounheuang reportedly posted and deleted that they were eating at Roscoe’s on her Instagram Stories. Stephanie, who had been shut out of Instagram by her boyfriend since March 2022, announced her return on Sunday, September 11, 2022, with a new video.

“I missed you guy! Sorry I’ve been MIA. Had to cleanse my sirit and my energy until I was pure. Naw I’m jp. My bd deleted my IG and wouldn’t give me the password. Lol but I’m backkkkkkkkkk!” she captioned the video.

PnB Rock then wrote in the comment section, “had to do what I had to do she all mines y’all.” He added the laughing, love-struck, padlock and building emojis.

His death is now sparking debates on why celebrities need to stop sharing personal details like their live location on social media for safety after another rising rapper Pop Smoke was murdered at his home in February 2020, a few hours after a series of Instagram posts revealing his home address.

“After Pop Smoke there’s no way we as rappers or our loved ones are still posting locations to our whereabouts. To show waffles & some fried chicken????! He was such a pleasure to work with. Condolences to his mom & family. This makes me feel so sick. Jesus. #SIP #PnbRock,” Nicki Minaj tweeted.

Cardi B, however, believes the rapper’s girlfriend should not take the blame for the attack.

She tweeted: “I highly doubt nikkas was looking at PMB’s babymom IG. He was in a bad location and people stay outside plotting. It’s very irresponsible and inconsiderate to blame her for something so tragic. We should be sending nothing but love to her and his family at this time.”

Born December 9, 1991, the rapper’s father, Raymond Allen, was also murdered when PnB Rock was three years old. His mother raised him and his siblings in Philadelphia.

He was jailed twice as a teenager. At the age of 13 when he was sentenced to a juvenile correctional centre for robberies and fighting in school, and at 19, he was jailed for 33 months for drug-related offences and other crimes.

PnB Rock got his stage name from Pastorius and Baynton, a street corner in the Philadelphia neighbourhood where he grew up.

He gained recognition with the release of his 2015 single ‘Fleek’ and followed the success with the release of another single in 2016 – ‘Selfish’, which turned out to be a big hit and peaked at number 51 on the US Billboard Hot 100. He was featured on Ed Sheeran’s ‘Cross Me’, which is a part of Sheeran’s album No.6 Collaborations Project.

He had two daughters before his death.

PnB Rock’s killing becomes the latest on the long list of young US rappers who have been shot dead. XXXTentacion was killed at age 20 in 2018 during a robbery, Nipsey Hussle, 33, was shot in Los Angeles in March 2019, while Pop Smoke and King Von were also shot dead in 2020.
