Pedro Serrano de Haro, chief of staff to EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, has been appointed the bloc’s new ambassador to the U.K.
Serrano de Haro, a Spaniard, will succeed João Vale de Almeida, who is leaving the post at the end of the year.
Prior to being Borrell’s chief of staff, Serrano de Haro was the deputy secretary-general for common security and defense policy and crisis response at the European External Action Service.
Vale de Almeida has been named a visiting professor for the spring semester at Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs, alongside his appointment next year as a visiting fellow at Cambridge University.
