Although details about Ifeanyi’s death are still sketchy at the moment, Thenetng gathered that the pop star’s son drowned in a pool at the family’s residence on Banana Island, in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Monday, October 31, 2022, less than a month to Davido’s 30th birthday.

Ifeanyi’s reported death, less than two weeks after his third birthday on October 20, 2022, has left fans and colleagues of the music star heartbroken and devastated.

The enthused father had wished his son good health and greater success in an Instagram post on his birthday.

Davido wrote on October 20, 2022: “I pray with all my heart that God grants you perfect health and pure happiness for as long as humanly possible. You will grow to be greater than Me, Happy birthday, son @davidifeanyiadeleke !!! #BIG3”

Although the family is yet to confirm or react to the tragic news as of the time of this report, condolence messages have begun to pour in from fans and colleagues who are struck with disbelief and shaken by the development.

A number of Davido’s colleagues have posted messages that appear to confirm the reported death of the young lad. Among them are Ayo Makun, Daddy Freeze, Stefflon Don, and Lasisi Elenu among others.

Nollywood actress, Eniola Badmus, one of the first to break the news on Monday night, in a now-deleted Instagram post, shared a broken heart emoji with the caption: “God Why”.

In an Instagram post, Ayo Makun wrote, “The Death of a child is unnatural, unfair, and tragic, this hit me so bad”.

Comedian Lasisi Elenu wrote on Instagram, “Father heal your children’s heart from this pain, strengthen them in such a dark and hurtful time oh Lord.”

Stefflon Don wrote: “Pray for Chioma and Davido.”

Comedienne Helen Paul called for prayers on her Instagram page: “Painful. Never again. We reject it. God, Please, restoration and healing.”

Ifeanyi’s death is coming four years after Nigerian music star D’banj also lost his son Daniel Oyebanjo III in a swimming pool on June 25, 2018. The deceased had turned one a month earlier.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, there are 390 deaths a year on average attributed to drowning in a swimming pool or at a spa. According to the Centers for Disease and Control Prevention (CDC), drowning is the number one cause of unintentional death for children between the ages of 1 and 4.

Reports reveal that some domestic staff at Davido’s house have been arrested.

We sent a message to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos Police PPRO on Tuesday morning asking for details about the arrest, but he’s yet to respond.
