Sydneysiders could enjoy the New Year's Eve fireworks for free around the harbour if Labor wins the upcoming New South Wales election.
Opposition leader Chris Minns has vowed to remove fees for tickets to public vantage points as some families fork out hundreds of dollars for the view.

It's suggested more than 45,000 people are having to pay to watch the fireworks around Sydney Harbour, with some being slugged up to $595 for tickets.
Now the opposition party wants to make the New Year's Eve fireworks free for all again, by stripping the costs from specific locations.

"We have the most beautiful harbour and the most beautiful city, and every person should be able to enjoy it – for free," Minns said.
"That's what Labor will do if we are elected. No matter where you watch the fireworks around our harbour, it will be free."

Deputy Labor leader Prue Car said with all the pressures on family budgets due to the rising cost of living, New Year's Eve celebrations shouldn't come at a cost.
"Families deserve to celebrate the New Year without worrying about additional costs to the family budget," she said.
