The Emergencies Act, invoked by the prime minister during the truck convoy, is distasteful to many who claim to love freedom, but the current judicial review of the act is automatic by law. The review helps protect democracy. In the U.K. in 1984, Margaret Thatcher decreed by order in council that certain civil servants could not join a union.
