It all began when Kylie Jenner hosted a party on July 12, 2020, at Hollywood Hills. Daystar ‘Tory Lanez’ Peterson and Megan ‘Megan Pete’ Thee Stallion, who were in a short-lived relationship, got into an argument as they exited the party, leading to Megan being injured.
After sustaining injuries at the party, Megan claimed she stepped on a broken glass. It wasn’t until later that she revealed on Instagram that Tory Lanez had shot her close to her feet with fragments of bullets lodged in there.
At a hearing in December 2021, Los Angeles Police told a judge that Megan demanded to be let out of Tory’s car after they had a scuffle about his musical talent.
“Tory then opened fire with a handgun”, officers said.
Megan further revealed that the bullets thankfully missed her bones and tendons and she needed surgery to remove them. This led to a back-and-forth between the two artistes as they called each other out in songs.
After months of deliberation, the shooting trial finally began in LA on December 13, 2022. Megan described in an emotional courtroom testimony her “shock” as Tory Lanez opened fire at her. She also testified that the Canadian artist had offered her $1m to keep quiet about the attack because he claimed to be on probation for a weapons offence.
Tory, facing up to 22 years if found guilty, denied multiple gun and assault charges.
On Friday, December 23, 2022, after a day of deliberation, a Los Angeles jury found Tory Lanez guilty of three felonies in the 2020 shooting of the WAP singer. Some of the counts include having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. The counts could lead to up to 22 years in prison for Tory.
