One of the visionaries in the entertainment industry and the founder of AMAA (Africa Movie Academy Awards), Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, is dead.

A source close to the family confirmed to Netng that Peace Anyiam-Osigwe had been sick before her death.

Netng also gathered that she died at St. Nicolas Hospital in Victoria Island, Lagos, in the early hours of Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

A family statement confirming her death described Peace as an “outstanding personality.”

The statement reads: “Peace, the Ada of the Anyiam-Osigwe family, was an outstanding personality, trailblazer, titan, pathfinder, go-getter, humanitarian, one-of-a-kind creative, and visionary leader in the film and television industry.”

“Peace left indelible imprints on the sands of time. We as a family and clan will continue to do all that is necessary to ensure that her legacy lives on,” the statement read.

The family also concluded that they would continue her legacies by keeping the Africa Movie Academy Awards and the Africa Film Academy, along with their training programmes across Nigeria and the African continent alive.

Anyiam-Osigwe was a graduate of Law and Political Science from Oxford Brookes University. However, she made her mark in the entertainment industry, founding the Africa Film Academy, which governs the AMAA film ceremony in 2005.

Due to her immense contribution to the entertainment space Anyiam-Osigwe was bestowed a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) by the Nigerian government in 2012. In 2015, she founded the Africaine initiative to spotlight and celebrate Africans in the entertainment industry.

On January 5, 2023, she had announced calls for submissions for the upcoming edition of the AMAAs on her official Instagram account.
