Man charged after horror boat crash claims two women's lives

A West Australian man has been charged over a boat crash that killed his wife and the mother of an AFL player.

John Burdon, 47, was charged with two counts of manslaughter and will face court later today.

Four people were on board a boat on the WA southwest coast on January 21 when it crashed into a navigation marker in the Mandurah Estuary.

Kylie Bazzo - the mother of West Coast Eagles defender Rhett Bazzo - was killed in a boating accident.

Burdon’s wife Debbie, 54, and 52-year-old Kylie Bazzo – the mother of West Coast Eagles defender Rhett Bazzo – were killed in the crash.

Burdon suffered back injuries in the crash while the other occupant, Mick Young, was unharmed.

Rescuers searched the estuary for more than 20 hours for the crash victims before their bodies were found.

Locals also assisted in the search efforts on boats, canoes and on foot along the shoreline.
