Eight months after he was sentenced to 30 years in prison by a US District Judge in Brooklyn on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, for sexually abusing women, underage girls and boys for decades, Grammy-award winner R Kelly has received another 20 years sentence in Chicago.
On Thursday, February 22, 2023, a federal judge sentenced R. Kelly to 20 years in prison for child sex crimes. The sentencing comes after a jury found that he had produced three videos of himself sexually abusing his 14-year-old goddaughter.
The jury in Chicago convicted the 56-year-old of six of the 13 charges brought against him, including three counts of coercing minors into sexual activity and three of producing sex tapes involving a minor.
In the defence’s victory, however, all but one year of his prison sentence would be served at the same time as his currently running 30-year sentence in Brooklyn, US.
While R Kelly’s Chicago sentencing draws his 25-year legal tussle nearer to a close, he still faces sex abuse charges in Illinois and Minnesota.
