Crystal Palace have sacked the club’s manager Patrick Vieira on Friday due to a poor run of games.

Patrick Vieira who has been the manager of the club since 2021 has led the 12th-placed team to an unprecedented 12 games winless streak.

Vieira’s last Premier League game in charge of the club was a 1-0 defeat to 7th-placed Brighton on Wednesday, March 15.

Naija News recalls that the 46-year-old Frenchman who was hired before the 2021–22 season led the Eagles to a 12th-place finish at the end of the season.

However, this season, only bottom-of-the-table Southampton, Wolves, and Everton have scored fewer goals than them, 21 in 27 games.

It was so bad that Patrick Vieira and his boys went three games without recording a goal on target before losing to Brighton.

Due to their poor run of games especially after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Crystal Palace are now three points away from the drop zone.

“It is with enormous regret that this difficult decision has been made,” the chairman of the club Steve Parish said on Friday morning.

“Ultimately, results in recent months have placed us in a precarious league position and we felt a change is necessary to give us the best chance of retaining Premier League status.

“Patrick’s impact since joining us in the summer of 2021 has been significant, and he is held in the highest regard by myself, and all of his colleagues.

“He led the team to a Wembley FA Cup semi-final and respectable 12th-placed finish last season playing some exciting football, which was a challenging and crucial campaign for the club given the changes we made to the squad before his arrival.

“Patrick has given his all to the club, and we all thank him and his team for their service.”

Three other members of Patrick Vieira’s coaching staff, Osian Roberts, Kristian Wilson, and Said Aigoun, have also left the team, and a search for a new manager is currently underway.
