While the world is certainly over the moon for the wonders of ChatGPT, there are certain limitations to what ChatGPT can and cannot do. It is certainly a breakthrough in AI, but the journey to “singularity” may only be in its initial phase. ChatGPT is far from creating human-like intelligence, let alone replacing it.

Language model limitations
ChatGPT, Generative Pre-trained transformer, is based on Natural language processing (NLP) which has its own limitations. For example, language models cannot adequately process contextual words, phrases, homonyms, sarcasm, and ambiguity, to name a few. ChatGPT, likewise, performs poorly when inputs are ambiguous or beyond the language model’s processing capabilities.
ChatGPT cannot also process overly complex inputs, slang, or excessive abbreviations.
Conks out on data post-2021
ChatGPT is trained on data sets collected in and before 2021. If performs absolutely well if asked about information from 2021 or earlier. However, it is not suitable for industries with rapid and robust advancements.
Lack of multimodal output and input
ChatGPT is only a text-based model. It generates outstanding text, but and it does not accept other modes of input, including video, image, or voice.
Good in, Good out
ChatGPT will perform only as well as the commands that are passed to it. In simple words, good commands generate good results, and poor commands generate poor results. Therefore, there is still a need for creative and strategic thinking about what to ask ChatGPT or how to generate an effective command to one’s own advantage.
No real-time responses
ChatGPT only uses pre-defined data and algorithms to teach itself to replicate human-like intelligence in conservations. It is not connected to the internet and cannot generate real-time responses. For example, it cannot tell about dollar rate or stock price of a company in real time.
Originality of the copy: a bull in china closet
ChatGPT is an instant copywriter but the originality of the content might become an issue. It is more likely than not for ChatGPT to generate similar results to users doing the same thing. Google abhors plagiarized content and when it detects similar content, it hides them by default. So, it could end up de-ranking the website with content that one thinks is absolutely crazy, therefore, making it very difficult to get any traffic. As a precaution, one should double-check the content with programs like originality.ai before proceeding to put it on website.
Lacks Empathy
While ChatGPT may have replicated some of the human intelligence (IQ) but it definitely lags far behind in emotional quotient EQ which is the cornerstone of human interactions and human-based working models. While AI-based chatbots may handle repetitive or recursive tasks perfectly, they cannot empathize with human emotions, making support provision challenging in certain scenarios.
Conclusion
While ChatGPT is great if it is only meant to be a language model-based conservation tool. However, it cannot handle multimodal inputs and outputs. Its performance is subject to detailed, well-pruned text inputs which again require human intelligence. Therefore, it is far from replacing human intelligence as yet.
