Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb ‘Portable’ Okikiola is being sought for questioning by the Nigeria Police after a video of his altercation with the Police went viral on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.
In the viral video, he was seen shouting at police officers in plain clothes at his restaurant in Ogun state.
The officers claimed they were detailed to execute an arrest warrant on the singer following a petition against him. They could not arrest him after the ‘drama’ he put up at his restaurant which was streamed live to his over one million followers on Instagram.
Force PRO Muyiwa Adejobi claimed Portable’s action during the visit by Police to his restaurant is criminal and punishable by the criminal laws of Nigeria.
“The NPF will take all necessary steps to investigate his actions and ensure that he is prosecuted for any criminal activity he may have committed depending on the severity of the offence. The Police will not condone any unruly act, assault or attack on its officers who are on lawful duty,” Adejobi tweeted on Wednesday, March 29, 2023.

The Ogun State Police Command also gave Portable 72 hours to report himself or face arrest.
In his reaction to the Police, Portable admitted to assaulting the petitioner Emmanuel ‘Manny Money’ Osimosu, his former signee, and claimed the Police has no business interfering in the matter which he likened to domestic violence, a more serious offense.
In 2022, Portable was seen in a viral video kicking and hitting Osimosu beside his car.
In the petition to the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, dated December 2, 2022, and seen by Netng, Manny Money, a 300-level student of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ogun state, alleged threat to his life and assault occasioning harm, among others.
What does the Nigerian law say about assault?
Section 351 of the Criminal Code Act of Nigeria says:
“Any person who unlawfully assaults another is guilty of a misdemeanor, and is liable, if no greater punishment is provided, to imprisonment for one year.”
Section 355 says:
“Any person who unlawfully assaults another and thereby does him harm, is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for three years.”
Portable risks jail term if found guilty after publicly admitting to assaulting Manny Money.
Portable has been in the news for many controversies since he broke out in December 2021.
In May 2022, the organisers of Headies disqualified him from as a nominee after he publicly threatened other nominees.
“Those are my awards. Anybody else who wins, I will ask for them to be killed. I will ask them to kill the person. If the organizers give my award to someone else, they will die,” he declared in a viral video.
On July 18, 2022, he also ran into trouble with the Police after posting a video on his Instagram page claiming he is the founder of the infamous notorious cult group ‘One Million Boys’ credited with many reports of violence and robbery, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in 2020.
“Have you heard of Ajah boys, One Million Boys? I established them,” he said.
On June 17, 2022, Portable posted a video on the internet ordering his group of friends to assault and inflict bodily harm on his accused friend, DJ Chicken.
In December 2022, he also got into in a brawl with concert attendees during a concert in the Agege area of Lagos where he was billed to perform.
