Barely two weeks after the Presidential and National Assembly elections, some voters in Niger State have called out some politicians over failure to keep their promise.

According to DailyTrust, the voters submitted their account numbers during the election and the politicians have failed to make payments.

One of the voters identified as Felicia Sunday said politicians cannot be trusted, stressing that various political parties collected their account numbers with a promise to pay N5000 after the election and they are yet to receive the money.

She said: “Our account numbers were collected during the presidential and National Assembly elections and up till now we’ve not heard anything. Some parties promised us N5,000 these politicians are deceitful people. I can’t just trust them again.”

Another voter, Mallam Danjuma Mohammed shared a similar experience, saying that account numbers were submitted during the voting exercise and nothing has been done.

He noted that many of the voters have decided not to listen to any politician during the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

He said: “We submitted our account to an agent of one of the political parties, who promised to send us N5,000 after the poll but has not done so up till now.”

Speaking on the conduct of the voters, a retired police officer, Sunday Ajeromi, said it was a criminal offence for them to collect money in exchange for votes, adding that is what the law refers to as vote selling or buying.

He said instead of them complaining, the law enforcement agents should have arrested and prosecuted them accordingly.

The retired police officer noted that it was a serious offence in the Electoral Act to either buy or sell votes and urged the populace to desist from such in the interest of the nation’s democratic development.
