Colombo, April 27 (newsin.asia) – The Sri Lankan government is taking steps to reduce traffic congestion in Colombo by building four multi-storey car parks. The project is being carried out by the Urban Development Authority (UDA) on the directives of the Minister of Urban Development and Housing, Prasanna Ranatunga, with the support of both private and public sectors. Two of the car parks will be built by the UDA, while the other two will be built by private firms. The car parks will be constructed in front of the Sri Lanka Telecom Institution, the old fish market, and in Narahenpita.

Additionally, a new public car park in Colombo-02 built by Access Engineering at a cost of Rs. 1400 million has been handed over to the public under the patronage of Minister Prasanna Ranatunga. The eight-story car park has a capacity of 300 vehicles, and ownership will be transferred to the UDA after 30 years. As per the agreement, the UDA will receive 20% of the car park’s monthly income.

By constructing these new car parks, the government aims to ease traffic congestion caused by daily commuter traffic entering Colombo and other traffic-prone areas. This move is expected to bring relief to commuters and reduce the overall traffic load on the city’s roads.
