May 17 (newsin.asia) – According to Ada Derana reporter, the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court has imposed a travel ban on Pastor Jerome Fernando.

The pastor, who recently made controversial remarks about various religions, including Buddhism, Islam, and Hinduism, is said to have left the country on May 14. However, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has obtained a travel ban against him from the court on May 16.

A video clip of Pastor Jerome Fernando delivering a sermon, which went viral on social media, sparked significant controversy within the country. The video allegedly contained derogatory statements about Lord Buddha. Responding to the situation, President Ranil Wickremesinghe ordered an immediate investigation by the CID into the pastor’s statement, emphasizing the potential harm it could cause to religious harmony and national security.

Both the New Buddhist Front (‘Nawa Bikshu Peramuna’) and the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) have filed complaints against Pastor Jerome Fernando, urging the CID to arrest him and take legal action.
