After two audition shows, the judges round up the audition process for Nigerian Idol Season 8 with a final set of contestants on the Live Shows, which aired on the Africa Magic channels on Sunday, May 7, 2023.
The show started with a performance from the contestant DGTYcoon as he attempted to give a rendition of Fave’s NBU. Although he seemed really confident in his abilities to sing, he failed to meet the judge’s expectations.
His performance was followed by Reigny’s as she became the first golden ticket winner of the night as she performed the go-to singing competition song Rise Up by Andra Day.
Following a series of hilarious and subpar performances, Akinwande changed a narrative as he absolutely slayed his performance with an original track. The words ‘Ori mi, Ejika’ resounded around the audition centre as the judges could not help but sing along. The original song’s rendition route never goes well, but Akinwande pulled it off.
If you watched the previous season of Nigerian Idol, you would remember Paul Bielonwu’s hilarious rendition of the Christian song, El Shaddai, well he is back again for Season 8, and this time he brings his Saxophone to perform Timi Dakolo’s Iyawo and it was a travesty.
While there were some horrendous moments, some contestants also stood out for their vocal control and dexterity. Semilore is one of those as she performed Adele’s ‘Love In The Dark’. While Victory ends the audition on a high note with his enthralling performance of Bruno Mars’ ‘Just The Way You Are’.
With 136 golden ticket winners, the show moves on to the theatre stage, where Victory moves on to the duet stage after successfully giving a worthy performance at the first stage of theatre week. This performance is followed by Quest’s captivating performance of Rihanna’s ‘Lift Me Up’, and closed by Constance’s performance of Ayra Starr’s ‘Away’.
Overall, 76 contestants crashed out of Theatre Week as the others made it to the duet week, where they finally are a step closer to the top 10 finalist lineup. Who would make it past the duets? We are still very unsure of that.
